What does a great group look like?
During a game, we check the scoreboard to see if we’re winning. While there’s no scoring system for your group, there is a win and a way to determine how your group is doing in pursuit of that goal.
Our Group’s Win is…
To provide a predictable environment where participants pursue authentic community and spiritual growth.
The good news for you as a group leader is that you aren’t responsible for anyone else’s growth. Only God can make people grow. You are responsible for doing all you can to create an environment for growth to occur. You can think of authentic community and spiritual growth as two gauges for your group.
As a leader, it’s helpful from time to time to evaluate how your group is doing in these two key areas of success. For tips and best practices, visit https://groupleaders.org/bestpractices.
How to Have Great Group Meetings
As you plan for group discussions, consider these three parts of great group meetings:
Most leaders plan for 30 minutes of social and connect time, 60 minutes for time to learn together as a group through the group study and discussion, and then 30 minutes at the end of your group meeting focused on growth. Most groups enjoy the Connect time. The Learn part is where you’ll spend most of your time in a group. Be sure to prioritize Grow time at the end of each group meeting to allow your group members to share how God is currently at work in their lives and how the group can support them. As prayer requests surface, ask your group members how you can pray for them personally until you meet again.

Group Social Ideas
Group should be fun. Perhaps it’s time to take a break from your study and do something fun together. Here are a few of our favorite ideas:
AR Workshop
Does your group need to bond and work together? Are you ready to get your group members out of their routine? Try something everyone can enjoy.
Masterpiece Mixers
Schedule a private party for your group. This is a perfect opportunity to bond as a group and to unleash your creative side!
Axe Master Throwing
Break out of your normal routine by challenging your group in a new environment. Challenge your group members with two lanes of superior aim, incredible technique and excitement.
Top Golf
This is a casual atmosphere where you can sit back with your group for a fun night of bonding. You can enjoy a bite to eat while getting to know one another. Top Golf even has an option to help accommodate small groups of 10–12 people.
Main Event
Have a night full of fun with your group. Main Event has everything from arcade games to bowling! Go to their website to reserve your spot and make accommodations for your group.
Articles and Books on Marriage
Care Resources
Is a couple in your group struggling in their marriage? Is an individual going through a rough season—personally, professionally, or relationally? How do you care for them? How can your group walk alongside them? You don’t have to have all the answers, but we’d like to help you connect them with someone who is more equipped to help.
Posture of a Leader
Group members do not expect you to have all the answers. They do expect you to care about who they are and have a desire to help them grow. Below are four postures of great group leaders:
HUMILITY is the result of a strong relationship with Jesus and understanding that ultimately, he is the one who brings the growth and change we want for others and ourselves.
TEACHABILITY is a spirit that says, “I will constantly learn about myself, others, and God, so God can use me in new and different ways.”
CURIOSITY is a genuine interest and concern for others.
INTENTIONALITY is viewing each interaction in the group as an opportunity to invest in the life of another and to grow as a child of God.
